INTENSIVE TRAINING WORKSHOPS
For more advanced training in the model specifically for educators, Think:Kids provides 3-day intensive trainings. We look forward to announcing next summer's dates here soon. In the meantime, please attend a one-day introduction at one of the above sites to be eligible for the next round of Intensive Training Workshops. A description of the Intensive Training Workshops is below:

Tier 1 training provides an in-depth exposure to both the assessment and intervention components of the model. Participants will practice identifying the cognitive skill deficits contributing to challenging behavior and then learn how to address those deficits using the collaborative problem solving process. Participants learn to distinguish between direct (explicit) and indirect (implicit) skills training, to know when each approach is required, and to practice indirect skills training though Plan B as well as specific strategies for direct skills training both with individual students and groups of students. Additional topics include dealing with common resistances to the approach and troubleshooting other barriers to implementation such as integrating with other models in schools such as Positive Behavioral Supports. A particular focus is strategies for when a child refuses or has difficulty expressing his/her concerns. Implementation in entire classrooms and transforming school-wide disciplinary policies is also be covered.

Tier 2 training is limited to approximately 50 participants who have attended a previous three-day training. Tier 2 assumes basic knowledge of the approach and focuses on helping participants become proficient at teaching the model to others and implementing it under the most difficult of circumstances. Tier 2 training provides much more opportunity for individual attention, observation and feedback while focusing on more advanced topics related to implementation with individual students as well as entire classrooms.

The Explosive Child
Understanding and Helping Easily Frustrated, "Chronically Inflexible" Children

By Ross W. Greene, Ph.D. Now available in a completely revised and updated third edition, The Explosive Child is the internationally acclaimed book in which the Collaborative Problem Solving™ approach was first described. As in prior editions, the third edition describes a more contemporary approach to understanding and helping inflexible, easily frustrated, explosive children at home and school, but also includes the various updates to the CPS model that have occurred since the first edition was published in 1998. Treating Explosive Kids: The Collaborative Problem Solving Approach
By Ross W. Greene, Ph.D. and J. Stuart Ablon, Ph.D.
The first comprehensive presentation for clinicians of the groundbreaking approach popularized in Ross Greene's acclaimed parenting guide, The Explosive Child, this book provides a detailed framework for effective, individualized intervention with highly oppositional children and their families. Many vivid examples and Q&A sections show how to identify the specific cognitive factors that contribute to explosive and noncompliant behavior, remediate these factors, and teach children and their adult caregivers how to solve problems collaboratively. The book also describes challenges that may arise in implementing the model and provides clear and practical solutions. Two special chapters focus on intervention in schools and in therapeutic/restrictive facilities. Click here if you want to buy Treating Explosive Kids at amazon.com.
