Here’s a thought-provoking video on our children’s moral development from the Harvard School of Graduate Education. A lot of good points are made, but of course the critical question is how exactly does one as a parent go about achieving these things? Unfortunately many times these aspirations are easier said than done.
We’ve been spending a lot of time though thinking about how CPS for all kids, not just ones with challenging behavior, can be used to foster social and emotional skills like empathy and perspective taking that are crucial to moral development. The process of Plan B is about as powerful a way to practice and build empathy as we’ve found. So the three steps of Plan B not only help solve chronic problems, but they actually provide a detailed roadmap for how to teach your child to be a caring, compassionate person.
